NHL Stenden
Drive Me Crazy
Team "Drive Me Crazy" from NHL Stenden Emmen consists of 14 enthusiastic students who share a passion for technology and autonomous vehicles. The team is split into two disciplines: five Mechanical Engineering students and nine Information Technology students. With a broad mix of expertise, from hardware to software, they form a strong foundation for this challenging competition.
The team’s strength
What makes this team special is their close collaboration. Studying on the compact Emmen campus means they see each other daily, making teamwork effortless. Additionally, they share a curiosity and enthusiasm for exploring new IT and mechanical engineering concepts, driving them to push boundaries.
Why the Self Driving Challenge?
For the Mechanical Engineers, the answer is simple: they love cars and challenges. The IT students are intrigued by the technical complexity and the innovative tools required to solve these challenges. The Self Driving Challenge 2025 provides the perfect opportunity to test and refine their skills.
A New Category, A New Challenge
While NHL Stenden participated in the closed category last year, this is their first time competing in the open category. This means more freedom, but also more responsibility. The team is determined to build a safe and reliable autonomous car that meets strict RDW regulations and successfully completes the track.
Meet "Batsi"
The Mechanical Engineers have named their vehicle "Batsi," a name that reflects their ability to have fun while tackling this challenging project. The car features a unique design that combines recycled quad parts with custom-built components.
The Technical Challenge
The team is working hard to ensure that all mechanical components fit together seamlessly and that the technology functions smoothly. The biggest challenge? Time! All team members have regular university commitments, making it a race against the clock to get everything ready in time.
Innovation in Action
The team has opted for an Edge AI device as their main computing unit. This compact yet powerful system processes data rapidly and offers potentially improved object recognition, which could be a major advantage during the competition.
Team "Drive Me Crazy" is ready to take on the challenge. With their blend of technical knowledge, passion, and teamwork, they are going full speed ahead towards the Self Driving Challenge 2025!
