Team Fontys SDC

Last year’s champions in the open category, Team Fontys SDC, are back and more determined than ever. This motivated team of 13 students from Fontys Eindhoven brings together a diverse group from different study years and specializations within the HBO ICT program, along with a member from the Delta Program. With expertise in artificial intelligence, control systems, and autonomous vehicles, they are ready to take on this year’s challenge

BRUM1: A trusted competitor

The team is once again competing with BRUM1, their autonomous vehicle that proved its worth in last year’s competition. The name BRUM1 is a tribute to the popular children’s show Brum, a nostalgic favorite for many team members. This year, they aim to take BRUM1 to the next level by integrating new technologies and making key improvements.

Step-by-step innovation

Their approach is all about continuous improvement. By setting clear, achievable goals and refining them along the way, they move closer to building a fully functional autonomous vehicle. This process requires detailed planning and strong communication, but with teamwork, they can overcome challenges and adjust their strategy when needed.

Smarter decision-making

A major focus this year is enhancing the vehicle’s decision-making model. In 2024, their system relied on fixed-rule decision-making, but now they want BRUM1 to react more intelligently to dynamic environments. To achieve this, they are implementing an advanced path planning system that uses cost maps, enabling better navigation and obstacle avoidance.

The ultimate goal: completing the course successfully. There’s still work to be done, but Team Fontys SDC is confident in their skills and excited to showcase their improvements on June 12. With their knowledge, teamwork, and drive for innovation, they are ready to prove themselves once again.
