Team DUI

At the RDW Self Driving Challenge, Team Ducks Under Influence is bringing a fresh and focused perspective. This team from The Hague University of Applied Sciences consists entirely of Data Science and AI students, making artificial intelligence the core of everything they do.

With a shared background and passion for AI, the team approaches autonomous driving from a purely data driven angle, exploring how intelligent systems can learn, adapt and perform in real time.

Driven by curiosity

Their motivation to join the challenge is simple but powerful: curiosity. Autonomous driving is a rapidly evolving field, and for Team DUI it offers the perfect opportunity to explore how AI can be applied in a real world context.

The idea of building something that can think and act independently is what makes this challenge especially exciting for them.

Thinking like a human driver

What fascinates the team most is the ability of an AI model to understand its environment and make decisions on the fly. Just like a human driver interprets traffic situations and reacts accordingly, their goal is to create a system that can do the same.

Bringing that level of intelligence into a machine is what drives their work.

How their system works

Their self driving system processes data from cameras and sensors to understand what is happening around the vehicle. This information is then fed into an AI model, which decides how the car should respond.

By continuously analysing its surroundings, the system is able to make real time decisions while driving.

Building on what others have learned

Team Ducks Under Influence is taking a smart and iterative approach. They are learning from previous teams and improving on existing solutions, especially when it comes to preprocessing techniques and object detection models such as YOLO.

By refining and optimising these components, they aim to build a more efficient and accurate system.

Speed and precision as key challenges

One of the biggest challenges they expect is achieving fast and reliable object detection while maintaining precise control of the vehicle at all times.

Balancing speed, accuracy and control will be crucial to performing well during the competition.

Bringing AI and autonomy together

For the team, this challenge is an opportunity to truly combine AI with autonomous technology. It is about more than just theory, it is about making intelligent systems work in practice.

Eager to learn

If they had to describe themselves in three words, it would be eager to learn. With that mindset, Team Ducks Under Influence is ready to explore, experiment and grow throughout the challenge.
